Empire State Development has awarded Monroe County (NY) a $550,000 grant to help fund significant upgrades to Frontier Field in Rochester, home of the Rochester Red Wings (Triple-A, International League). After weeks of tedious stadium lease negotiations, Silver and Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo jointly announced an extension that will keep the Rochester Red Wings (Triple-A, International League) playing at Frontier Field for the next 10 years, with a mutual option for an additional 10 years. Monroe County and the Rochester Red Wings are seeking $4.5 million from the state for a $7.5 million makeover of Frontier Field, which could include a baseball museum in the old firehouse, installing a new field, revamping the concourse and suites and improving the front gate entrance. The Triple-A Rochester Red Wings (International League) and Frontier Field began hosting outdoor hockey with the Rochester Americans vs. Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) on Friday, Dec. 13. LeBeau Inc.’s contract to manage Frontier Field, home of the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings (International League), expired at the end of 2012 and will not be renewed. Going forward, Monroe County, which owns the stadium, and the Red Wings will partner to manage the facility. Read more here.
