Despite COVID-19, Construction Continues on MLB Field of Dreams

Major League Baseball has yet to determine whether there will be a season because of the spread of the coronavirus across the U.S. But construction continues on the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville (IA) where a game is still scheduled to be played between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox on August 13.  Read more here.

Field of Dreams Dreaming of MLB’s Return After 2020

When the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox finish their special game at the Field of Dreams movie site on Aug. 13, the two teams will pack their bags and head out of Iowa.  But the hope is that MLB will be back at the iconic site again.  Read more here

MLB Game at Field of Dreams Site Could Re-Energize ‘All-Star Ballpark Heaven’ Development

Field of Dreams Movie Site PlateThousands of people will be coming to little Dyersville (IA) next August to watch the first major league baseball game played   at the Field of Dreams between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.  One potential impact could be progress on All-Star Ballpark Heaven, a youth sports facility priced around $70 million that field owners have envisioned but have been unsuccessful in advancing for the better part of a decade.  Read more here.

MLB to Play at ‘Field of Dreams’ Site

As announced last week, the “Field of Dreams site in Dyersville (IA) will become big-league reality on August 13, 2020, when the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will take the field surrounded by fans cheering from a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark to be constructed on the farm site where the classic film was shot.  Construction on the ballpark will begin Tuesday.  Read more here.  Read about how the business community in tiny Dyersville is handling the news here.

Field of Dreams Vandalism Fundraising Update

On the morning of Jan 23, 2018, it was discovered that the Field of Dreams Movie Site ball diamond in Dyersville (IA) was destroyed by truck tire damage.  Many areas of the turf had been ripped up with potential damage to the refurbished irrigation system.  The GoFundMe site that was launched to help fund repairs has already raised $18,176.  Read more here.

Big 25th Anniversary Celebration Scheduled for ‘Field of Dreams’ Movie Site this Weekend

Field of Dreams Movie Site PlateKevin Costner and other cast members from the Field of Dreams movie, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, and sportscaster Bob Costas will descend on the Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville (IA) this weekend for the 25th anniversary celebration of the iconic film.  Festivities begin this evening (Friday) with a showing of the movie outdoors on the actual field.  Read more and view schedule of events here.

Cast of ‘Field of Dreams’ to Reunite in Iowa for Anniversary, Ballpark Heaven Saga Continues

Ballpark Heaven Gets the Nod

The Dyersville (IA) City Council voted 4-1 Monday to approve rezoning of the Field of Dreams movie site to allow for the development of a 24-field youth baseball tournament complex at the site called All-Star Ballpark Heaven.  Read more here.

Tax Breaks Approved for All-Star Ballpark Heaven

The governor of Iowa on Thursday signed off on $16.5 million worth of tax incentives for the proposed 24-field amateur baseball complex that would surround the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville (IA).  Read more here and here.

Plan for ‘Field of Dreams’ Movie Site Causing Angst

Not everyone living in the Dyersville (IA) area is happy about a plan to turn farmland surrounding the Field of Dreams movie site into a mega $38 million youth baseball tournament and training complex.  Some worry that a boon would destroy a rural way of life and disrupt farming.  Others worry about a bust, if the complex is built (with city water and sewer infrastructure), and “they don’t come.”  Read more here.

‘Field of Dreams’ Movie Site Sold

The “Field of Dreams” movie site in Dyersville (IA) has been sold to a group of investors led by a couple from the Chicago area.  The original asking price for the farm was $5.4 million.  The group plans to build a premier baseball and softball tournament complex on the 193-acre site called “All-Star Ballpark Heaven.”  Read more here.

Sea Dogs Hold Annual Field of Dreams Game, Sport Portland Eskimos Unis

The Double-A Portland Sea Dogs (Eastern League) held their annual Field of Dreams game on Sunday featuring players wearing replica 1926 Portland Eskimo uniforms and emerging from a cornfield.  ESPN named it one of the top 10 promotions in Minor League Baseball in 2010.  Read more hereRead ESPN article hereView cool photo gallery hereWatch video here.

The ‘Vineyard of Dreams’

Forget the cornfield.  How about a little wine tasting with your throw-back baseball experience?  The family at Balletto Vineyards winery in Sonoma (CA) have built a regulation-size baseball field that is surrounded on three sides by 160-acres of vines.  This was actually driven by a love of the game by employed field workers and not a desire to duplicate the Dyersville (IA) experience California-style.  Now that’s what we call true employee engagement!  Read more here.

‘The’ Field of Dreams For Sale

The Dyersville, Iowa site used for the filming of the Field of Dreams movie is for sale.  For $5.4 million, you can own the magical cornfield, 193 acres, a two bedroom house and six builldings.  Bidders are apparently lining up.  Ideas being batted around by some include building a Field of Dreams hotel, Field of Dreams waterpark, and even a minor league baseball stadium.  Read more here.
