Futures League Unveils New Home Run Derby Format to Decide Extra-Inning Games

More Renovations on Tap for Muzzy Field
More renovations are planned for Muzzy Field, home of the first-year Bristol Blues (Summer Collegiate, Futures Collegiate Baseball League), after baseball season ends. The $1.5 million second phase of improvements for the 101-year-old ballpark include putting a new press box behind home plate, extending the roof over the first baseline grandstand and even a new Wrigley Field-style sign with the name of the park. Peterson Named FCBL’s 2014 Executive of the Year

Seacoast Mavericks in Portsmouth Tonight
The summer collegiate Seacoast Mavericks (Futures Collegiate Baseball League) will play the first of six games at Leary Field in Portsmouth (NH) on Friday, July 20. The Mavericks will return to Leary on July 28 for one more and August 1-4 for a four-game series. View schedule here. No ownership group has been able to penetrate the Portsmouth market over the years, but the Mavericks are giving it a shot.

Futures League Team Approved for OOB
The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach (ME) will indeed have a team next season. The town council voted 4-1 on Tuesday to allow the second-year Futures Collegiate Baseball League to operate a franchise at the revived stadium for the next two years, with an option for a third season. The team will be known as the Raging Tide — the same name used by last year’s NECBL club. Read more here.
