El Paso to End Ballpark Subsidy Early

New figures show the debt incurred for building Southwest University Park, home of the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League), will be covered by revenue generated by the stadium and hotel occupancy tax revenue alone after 2021, two years ahead of schedule.  Read more here.

El Paso to Consider Plan for $1.2 Million in Capital Projects for Ballpark

The El Paso (TX) City Council on Tuesday will consider approving the updated five-year plan for capital projects at Southwest University Park, which is owned by the city and leased by MountainStar — the owners of the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League).  Read more here.

Taylor Promoted to VP of MountainStar Sports Group

PRESS RELEASE – The El Paso Chihuahuas’ Brad Taylor has been promoted to Vice President of MountainStar Sports Group and the Chihuahuas. Taylor, who has been with the Chihuahuas since May 2013, will continue to serve as general manager and oversee the team’s ticket sales, corporate partnership sales, guest services, community programs, operations, marketing and merchandising.

Refinancing El Paso Ballpark Debt: Better than Expected Savings

The decision to refinance some of the bonds to build Southwest University Park, home of the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League), could reportedly save taxpayers nearly $11 million than originally expected back in 2013.  Read more here.

Chihuahuas to Host 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game, Unveil Logo

PRESS RELEASE – The El Paso Chihuahuas are excited to announce that they will once again host a premier Minor League Baseball event as the 32nd edition of the Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game comes to Southwest University Park in July of 2019 in a nationally televised game. A date and time will be announced in the future.

San Antonio Gets Ballpark Advice from L.A. Dodgers

L.A. Dodgers executive Janet Marie Smith and El Paso city manager Joyce Wilson were in San Antonio Tuesday to speak at a luncheon with local architects and tour potential sites for a new ballpark that would lure the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) to downtown.  Read more here.

Mexican Winter League Games Coming to Southwest University Park

Spring 2015 Targeted for New Pedestrian Pathway to New El Paso Ballpark

A new pedestrian pathway expected to improve access to recently opened Southwest University Park was supposed to be completed by the end of spring, but the $6.5 million project has been delayed.  Martin Bartlett, spokesman for the City of El Paso, pointed to the summer of 2015 for completion of the project.  Read more watch news report here.

Mock Impressed by Footprint of New El Paso Ballpark

Joe Mock from BaseballParks.com had very positive words to say about Southwest University Park, the new home of the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas (Pacific Coast League), when he spoke with El Paso Inc. from the press box.  Mock seemed most impressed at how Populous managed to successfully jam a 9,000-seat baseball stadium into a little more than five acres.  Read more here.

It’s the ‘Joplin Blasters’

The new downtown El Paso (TX) ballpark for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas (Pacific Coast League) will open a little later than expected.  You can see why via a KFOX 14 hard-hat tour of the ballpark Sunday afternoon.  It’s looking good, but there is plenty of work to be done.  Read more and watch video here.
