El Paso to End Ballpark Subsidy Early

New figures show the debt incurred for building Southwest University Park, home of the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League), will be covered by revenue generated by the stadium and hotel occupancy tax revenue alone after 2021, two years ahead of schedule.  Read more here.

Taylor Promoted to VP of MountainStar Sports Group

PRESS RELEASE – The El Paso Chihuahuas’ Brad Taylor has been promoted to Vice President of MountainStar Sports Group and the Chihuahuas. Taylor, who has been with the Chihuahuas since May 2013, will continue to serve as general manager and oversee the team’s ticket sales, corporate partnership sales, guest services, community programs, operations, marketing and merchandising.

Refinancing El Paso Ballpark Debt: Better than Expected Savings

Chihuahuas to Host 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game, Unveil Logo

Ballpark Sparks Development, Laundromat Becomes Cantina

El Paso’s new ballpark continues to bring new businesses Downtown. The latest addition involves the transformation of an old laundromat into the Blackbird Cantina Deluxe a block from Southwest University Park, home of the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas (Pacific Coast League).  The new drinking establishment is scheduled to open on Halloween.  Read more here.

Mexican Baseball Fiesta at Chihuahuas’ Home

Spring 2015 Targeted for New Pedestrian Pathway to New El Paso Ballpark

A new pedestrian pathway expected to improve access to recently opened Southwest University Park was supposed to be completed by the end of spring, but the $6.5 million project has been delayed.  Martin Bartlett, spokesman for the City of El Paso, pointed to the summer of 2015 for completion of the project.  Read more watch news report here.

Mock Impressed by Footprint of New El Paso Ballpark

PRESS RELEASE – Downtown El Paso’s ballpark has a name – Southwest University Park. In a highly anticipated naming ceremony held in Cleveland Square this afternoon, representatives from the El Paso Chihuahuas along with Southwest University President, Yolanda Arriola, announced the official name of the ballpark. Also present for the event were officials from the City of El Paso.

Designated Fun Zone Under Consideration Today by El Paso Council

Ballpark Opening Delayed, Chihuahuas Will Return to Tucson for First Few Home Games

Kino Stadium Complex Needs $1.5M Annual Subsidy

Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said that while public use of Kino Sports Complex continues to grow, the county will have to dedicate roughly $1.5 million a year to maintain current operations.  Kino Stadium, located at the complex, is the soon-to-be-former home of the Triple-A Tucson Padres (Pacific Coast League).  Read more here.
