A New Plan for the Astrodome Site

Houston Astros Old LogoOnce lovingly called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” Houston’s iconic Astrodome has seen far better and more glamorous days. After an earlier movement to restore the ailing stadium as a convention center failed, a new proposal garnering attention would tear down the dome, fill the space with a lush park, and erect a miniature version of the dome in the middle.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

Glimmer of Hope for Astrodome?

Houston Astros Old LogoThe National Park Service announced this week that the Astrodome has been added to its National Register of Historic Place, but officials say the designation alone will not be enough to prevent the demolition of the so-called “Eighth Wonder of the World.”  Read more hereView recent photos here.

Astrodome Yard Sale and Auction Today

Houston Astros Old LogoThousands of people lined up Saturday for the chance to take home a piece of the iconic but dilapidated Houston Astrodome.  Voters will decide Tuesday whether to approve a referendum authorizing up to $217 million in bonds to turn the stadium into a giant convention center and exhibition space.  If the referendum fails, officials say the facility will likely be razed.  Read more here.

‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ & ‘Wonderdog’ to Debut in 2011
