Authority Seeking Bids to Demolish Campbell’s Field

Campbell’s Field, former home of the Camden Riversharks (Independent Professional, Atlantic League) is expected to face the wrecking ball after 17 years.  The 6,700-seat park cost $35 million to build.  Camden County Improvement Authority is looking for bids on the demolition.  Read more here.

Parks Department Recommends Greer Demolition

Nashville Sounds LogoMetro Parks & Recreation Director Tommy Lynch said this week that his department is recommending the demolition of the 1978-era, city-owned Greer Stadium, the former home of the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) — a first step toward a range of possible future uses for the property on Chestnut Street near Eighth Avenue South.  Read more here.

Goodbye Midway Stadium, Demolition Underway

St. Paul Saints Hat LogoDemolition work is underway on Midway Stadium.  The 6,000-seat stadium in the shadows of the state fairgrounds served as the home of the St. Paul Saints (Indy Pro, American Association) for more than 20 years.  The team now plays at brand new CHS Field in Lowertown.  Read more and view photos here.

The Joe Appears Slated for Demolition, Christmas Eve Celebration Brings Joy to the Ballpark

Huntsville Stars LogoNow that the Double-A Huntsville Stars (Southern League) will be relocating to a new ballpark in Biloxi (MS) as the rebranded Biloxi Shuckers, demolition of 30-year-old Joe Davis Stadium, the current home of the Stars/Shuckers, could occur late in 2015.  The site is the target location for an indoor athletic complex to serve as anchor for the north end of the ongoing John Hunt Park redevelopment. Dynamite Brings Down Parts of Metrodome

Minnesota Twins Minnie and Paul LogoThe ring beam and corners of the Metrodome, former home of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, were brought down Sunday morning with 84 charges of dynamite set in 24 columns of the upper concourse.  Using explosives to take down the facility was not part of the original demolition plan, but safety concerns forced explosive action.  Read more and watch explosion video here.
