Hooks New Field Nears Completion

PRESS RELEASE – After 11 years of Hooks baseball and 12 years after the construction of Whataburger Field began, the Ballpark by the Bay’s playing surface received a makeover. In conjunction with Ryan Sanders Sports Turf Services, Landscapes Unlimited and King Ranch Turf Grass, the Hooks’ grounds crew drew one step closer to completing a resurfacing Wednesday when it laid new sod across the field.

Nolan Ryan Interested in New Ottawa Team?

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, who already owns the Triple-A Round Rock Express (Pacific Coast League) and Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks (Texas League) as part of Ryan-Sanders Entertainment, is believed to be negotiating through Beacon Sports Capital Partners to own a minority stake in the Double-A Eastern League franchise expected to set up shop in Ottawa (ON) in 2014.  Read more here.

Hooks, City to Extend Ballpark Lease

PRESS RELEASE – Ryan Sanders Baseball officials announced today that they have reached a tentative agreement with the City of Corpus Christi that would extend the current stadium lease an additional 15 years and keep the Corpus Christi Hooks Double-A professional baseball club in Corpus Christi through 2035.

Whataburger Field STMA Field of the Year

PRESS RELEASE – Whataburger Field, home of the Corpus Christi Hooks, has been recognized as the Professional Baseball Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Managers Association.  The honor is a first in the five-year history of the facility.  The STMA’s Field of the Year program began in 1992.

Boxing Bolsters Ballpark Revenue

Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, TX and QuickTrip Ballpark in Grand Prarie, TX both hosted boxing events with crowds of approximately 5,000.  Admission to each venue was free, but boxing fans could updgrade to reserved seats for $5 or $10.  Read more here.
