U.S. Sen. Blumenthal (CT) Sends Letter to MLB Commissioner

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal has become the latest Connecticut official to urge Major League Baseball to save the minor league team in Norwich (CT), warning congressional action might be taken.  Read more here.

Ground Problems Halt Renovation of Waterbury Stadium

Waterbury SpiritMunicipal Stadium in Waterbury (CT) is undergoing a $4 million renovation of its grandstand, but construction has been halted after it was discovered that the “quicksand”-like ground is challenging the integrity of the facility’s foundation and structure.  The fix could be expensive.  Read more here.  Thanks to Joe DeLeonard for the link.

Waterbury Approves Funding for Stadium Renovation

Lights Out for Schooners’ Inaugural Home Opener

The home opener for the first-year Mystic (CT) Schooners from the New England Collegiate Baseball League was set for June 12, but problems with getting the new lights up at Fitch High School baseball field will force the team to play elsewhere for the first three scheduled home dates.  Read more here.

Anonymous Donor Made Bristol to Groton Move Possible

A $500,000 anonymous donation to improve the baseball field at Fitch High School in Groton (CT) made it feasible for the NECBL’s Bristol (CT) team to relocate to the Mystic/Groton area.  The field will get all new lights, a concession stand with bathrooms, outfield fencing, bullpens, and a press box.  Reportedly, the donor will up the ante if necessary to make the park viable for the 2011 season.  Read more here.
