Communities, Congress Fighting Back Against MLB’s Minor League Contraction Plan

Norwich (CT) Mayor Peter Nystrom says he plans to fight hard to preserve his town’s little piece of Americana — the soon-to-be-renamed Connecticut Tigers (we’re hoping for Narwhals) (Single-A, New York-Penn League).  Mayor Norstrom stated:

I’m writing to every municipality affected by this.  These are community centers.  Dodd Stadium is a community center.  To me, this is a stab in the back.

U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Norwich, said he believes MLB has underestimated the clout these communities have.  He co-authored a letter signed by over 100 colleagues to MLB officials outlining the negative implications of contraction and reminding them Congress has the power to reconsider the league’s antitrust exemption.  MLB respondedRead more here.

Details Emerge of MLB’s Master Plan to Contract MiLB Lineup

Tigers Name Finalists for New Team Name

PRESS RELEASE – The Connecticut Tigers have taken the next step towards a new identity and announce the finalists for their new hometown name. The team now asks for fan input on the five finalist names. Fans can vote on their favorite by visiting cttigers.com. through Friday, October 18th. The new name will then be unveiled in November.

CT Tigers to Play as New England Lobster Rolls July 14th

Norwich Council Approves $800K for Ballpark Upgrades

After hearing from several speakers, including officials from the Connecticut Tigers (Single-A, New York-Penn League), the City Council voted 6-0 Monday to approve an $800,000 bond ordinance for improvements to the Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium which is deemed necessary to keep the team in Norwich (CT).  Read more here.

CT Tigers Unveil 2016 Promo Schedule

Connecticut Tigers Unveil 2013 NYPL All-Star Game Logo

The Single-A Connecticut Tigers this morning unveiled the logo for the 2013 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, which the team is hosting at Dodd Stadium on Tuesday, August 13.  To build intrigue, the Tigers shared parts of the logo with fans via the team’s Facebook page and Twitter over the past week.

Sale of Oneonta Outlaws Close

Oneonta (NY) businessman Gary Laing expected to review the final contract for the sale of the summer collegiate Oneonta Outlaws (Perfect Game League) on Monday.  He is buying the club from Keith Rogers and Dan Scaring, who relocated the franchise from Saratoga (NY) to Damaschke Field in 2010, after the Single-A Oneonta Tigers (New-York Penn League) split for Connecticut.   Read more here.

Grass Getting a Little Blue at Dodd Stadium

The Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival will take up residence at Dodd Stadium, home of the Single-A Connecticut Tigers (New York-Penn League), this summer.  The four-day event will take place from Aug. 2-5, when the Tigers are on the road.  This will be the first time the festival has been held at Dodd.  It is expected to draw 5,000 to 10,000 bluegrassers.  Read more here.

Mets Not Moving Affiliation to Norwich

Connecticut Tigers Gunning for Season Two Turnaround

The inaugural season for the Single-A Connecticut Tigers in Norwich (CT) was not a good one from an attendance standpoint.  The team averaged 1,485 per game over 36 home dates, which amounted to half of the 100,000 fans the club hoped to draw in its first season at Dodd Stadium after relocating from Oneonta (NY).  But with a full off season to market the team, the Tigers are hoping for big improvement in season Continue reading

Tigers Debut in Front of 3,120

The Connecticut Tigers (Norwich, CT), the newest franchise from the Single-A New York-Penn League, made their home debut Saturday night in front of 3,120 at Dodd Stadium.  As you recall, the Tigers relocated from Oneonta (NY) and replaced the Double-A Eastern League’s Connecticut Defenders, which moved to Richmond (VA) and became the Richmond Flying Squirrels.  Read more here.

‘Connecticut Tigers’ a Go for 2010

The former Oneonta Tigers received notification today from Minor League Baseball President Pat O’Connor granting permission for the New York-Penn League franchise to move from Oneonta (NY) to Norwich (CT) and Dodd Stadium.  The team will be known as the Connecticut Tigers.  Read more here.
