Midtown Plan Puts City of Palms Park at Risk

City of Palms Park in Fort Myers (FL), the former spring-training home for the Boston Red Sox, is at risk of being demolished, if the city’s Midtown plan — a “mixed-use town center” — is finalized.  The plan envisions the neighborhood as a shared-use living space comprised of affordable and workforce housing, along with commercial space and open communal green space.  Read more and watch video here.

Nationals to Fort Myers?

Fort Myers (FL) has the Minnesota Twins at Hammond Stadium and the Boston Red Sox at the new JetBlue Park for spring training and could end up with the Washington Nationals too.  The Nationals are talking with Lee County about moving into a renovated City of Palms Park.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

Lee County Courting Washington Nationals

The Boston Red Sox have moved their spring training operations to the new JetBlue Park in Fort Myers (FL), leaving City of Palms Park without a MLB team.  Lee County is now in discussions with the Washington Nationals to try and fill the void.  Read more here.

City of Palms Park Needs New Roof

The Boston Red Sox have departed City of Palms Park for the new JetBlue Park at Fenway South as the team’s Spring Training home, which is one reason some folks in Lee County are not too keen on the idea of spending $300,000 for a new roof needed to maintain the 20-year-old trade in.  Read more and view news clip here.
