The Future of Jackson’s Smith-Wills Stadium

The future of Smith-Wills Stadium is still up in the air, with Jackson (MS) city officials still undecided how to move forward with the property.  Last year, the city brought on Tim Bennett, owner of the Biloxi Shuckers (Double-A, Southern League), to do an assessment of stadium and help determine its viability for tournaments and events.  Opening in 1975, a number of affiliated and independent clubs played at the ballpark over the years.  Read more here.

Nueces County Ballpark Regains Footing Beyond Baseball

Fairgrounds Field in Robstown (TX), the former home of the Coastal Bend Aviators (Independent Professional, Central Baseball League/American Association), has struggled for viability.  Looking beyond baseball, Nueces County has found some new uses for the field by renting it out to more than 40 different organizations and businesses.  Read more here.

Price Cutter Park Undergoing Renovations, Will Host Summer Collegiate League

Show Me Collegiate League LogoPrice-Cutter Park, the former home of the defunct Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks (Independent, Central Baseball League), is undergoing renovations after Oklahoma businessman Jeff Williams purchased the facility this winter.  Improvements include artificial turf and LED videoboard.  The stadium will be home of the new four-team Show Me Collegiate League operated by U.S. Baseball.  Read more and watch news report here.
