Single-A Kernels in Talks to Buy Summer Collegiate Bucks
The Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League) are in talks to buy the summer collegiate Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League). The purchase has already been approved by the Midwest League and the President of Minor League Baseball. There are still a few other hoops to jump through here, but it looks like a done deal. Local Anchor Gets Ron Burgundy Bobblehead Treatment May 2
The first 1,000 fans through the gates tonight at Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League), will receive a free bobblehead of local news anchor Bruce Aune from KCRG-TV9 as Ron Burgundy from the Anchorman movie.

Council Approves Funding for Ballpark Improvements
As a follow up to our previous post on the issue, the Cedar Rapids (IA) City Council voted Tuesday to provide $1.5 million in funding for capital improvements to Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League), over the next decade. The other $1.5 million needed will be covered by the team and stadium operator. Read more here.

City to Spend $150k to Repair Kernels’ Ballpark
The City of Cedar Rapids (IA) plans to spend $150,o00 to make repairs to nine-year-old Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels. The funds will be used to fix a leaky roof, drainage problems, and replace field lighting. Action by the city was spurred by a tiff between the Veterans Memorial Commission and the Kernels over lease terms and compliance therewith. Read more here.

City to Pony Up Dollars for Ballpark Repairs
The City of Cedar Rapids (IA) has decided to fund about $22o,000 in repairs to Veterans Memorial Stadium, after the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels filed a complaint with the city claiming that the city had not been living up to their responsibilities under the terms of the team’s lease agreement. Landlord-Tenant Trouble in Cedar Rapids
The Veterans Memorial Commission, the entity that oversees Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids (IA), has complained that the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels are not complying with their lease agreement and exploiting loose lease terms to their advantage. The Kernals have responded by letter that the city is in breach of the lease. Oh, how we long for the days of old Veterans Memorial Stadium. Read more here.
