A few weeks ago, the indy pro Edmonton Capitals decided to withdraw from the North American League and not play in 2012. This news has not deterred the owners of the proposed new team in Fort McMurray (AB), who still plan to begin play in a new ballpark starting in 2013. Read more here.

All Signs Point to Folded Vipers
All signs are that the indy pro Calgary Vipers (North American League) have closed up shop. The team’s president resigned three weeks ago, front office staff were reportedly laid off in mid September, there has apparently been no activity around Vipers’ HQ, the club’s website is down, bills remain unpaid, and nobody with the team or league is talking. End of Line for Vipers?
John Conrad, president of the indy pro Calgary Vipers (North American League), resigned from the team on Wednesday in the face of a “deteriorating financial situation.” On a related note, sources tell us that the Vipers averaged 500 fans per game during their playoff run. The official number listed by the league is a paltry 729. Not good. Read more here.

New Canadian League on Deck?
We spoke too soon on Sunday. It looks like Can-Am League/American Association chief Miles Wolff is interested in developing a new Canadian baseball circuit that would include inter-league play with the Can-Am League. Capitals GM Wants Triple-A Back, Interested in Partnering with Other Canadian Clubs
Patrick LaForge, governor (general manager) of the indy pro North American League’s Edmonton Capitals, would like to see Triple-A baseball back in Edmonton, and he’s willing to partner with the Vancouver Canadians (Single-A, Northwest League), Calgary Vipers (North American League), and Winnipeg Goldeyes (indy pro, American Association) to make it happen.
