Banners Honor Newcombe, Campanella at Holman Stadium
Two 12-foot banners depicting and commemorating two African American baseball players, Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella, who played for the Nashua Dodgers and then went on to star for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the major leagues, were unveiled Tuesday at Holman Stadium in Nashua (NH). Miami Stadium Site to Receive Historical Marker
As Miami prepares to host the upcoming 2017 MLB All-Star Game at Marlins Park — the city’s first time hosting the annual celebration of baseball — it is fitting news that fabled and demolished Miami Stadium (AKA Bobby Maduro Stadium) will finally receive a historical marker where it once stood. Dodgers to Honor Jackie Robinson with Statue
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Tuesday that, sometime in 2016, a likeness of Jackie Robinson would be the first statue ever to appear at Dodger Stadium. The artist Branly Cadet, a former Brooklyn resident, will sculpt a statue between 9 and 10 feet tall of Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s modern color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Nets to Honor Dodgers with Jerseys
The NBA’s Brooklyn Nets will pay homage to the long-department Brooklyn Dodgers by wearing Dodger-inspired jerseys during five “Brooklyn Blue Nights” games this season. Ebbets Field (Model) Envy
After 4 1/2 months, 1,100 hours and $4,500 of his own money, Dan Carpenter from Saugus (CA) completed construction on a pretty sweet 1:16 scale model replica of old Ebbets Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, that depicts the stadium just before Game 3 of the 1955 World Series. Now, we’ve seen many ballpark models before, but this one seems extra special. In fact, we’re feeling a little envious. View photos and video here.
