It’s the ‘Florida Fire Frogs’

florida-fire-frogs-primary-logoDuring an unveiling gala at the Osceola Heritage Club, it was announced that the new Single-A Florida State League franchise taking up residence at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee (FL) will be known as Florida Fire Frogs.  The former Brevard County Manatees relocated from Viera (FL) following the 2016 season.  Read more here.  View press release here.

Finalists Revealed for Osceola County’s ‘Name the Team’ Contest

Florida State League LogoSix “Name the Team” finalists have been chosen for the relocating Brevard County Manatees (Single-A, Florida State League), which will make Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee (FL) home starting next season.  Fans have until 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, August 18th, to select one of the following names: Florida Dragonflies, Florida Fire Frogs, Florida Mud Kickers, Florida Rodeo Clowns, Florida Sorcerers, Florida Toucans.  Read more about the names and vote here.

Star Wars Nights Across the Minor League Baseball Universe

Star WarsEvery team out there seems to be holding Star Wars Night, so it has become a bit of a yawner when it comes to uniqueness, but the Brooklyn Cyclones (Single-A, New-York Penn League) have taken things to a different dimension:

“Imitation lightsabers, cosplay robes, hot dogs, and the chicken dance were all folded into a deeply bizarre spectacle as the Cyclones chose to eschew the original film scripts and instead tell a story that runs afoul of Star Wars canon.”  Read more and watch videos here.

Relocating Manatees Launch ‘Name the Team’ Campaign

$10 Million for Future of Space Coast Stadium

Washington Nationals WBrevard County ManateesSome Brevard County (FL) leaders want to bet big on the future of the area’s Space Coast stadium, as the Washington Nationals and possibly the Brevard County Manatees (Single-A, Florida State League) head for the door.  Commissioners want to attract a major youth athletic league to the ballpark.  It could cost $10 million to do it.  Watch news report here.

Manatees Eye New Downtown Melbourne Ballpark

Rollins College Buckles on Ballpark Plan, Winter Park to Look Elsewhere

Rollins Takes a Ballpark Pause

Ballpark Traffic and Parking Study Up Next in Winter Park

Manatees Relocating to Winter Park

Brevard County ManateesThe City of Winter Park (FL), the Single-A Brevard County Manatees (Florida State League), and Rollins College have reached a tentative deal to bring the minor league baseball team to Winter Park, beginning with the 2016 season.  Alfond Stadium, where Rollins College currently plays, will be rebuilt into a 2,500-seat venue which the college and Manatees will share.  Read more and watch news report here.

Rollins College, Manatees Turn to Renovated Ballpark Plan?
