Snappers Being Sold, New Downtown Ballpark Proposed

Quint Studer and Diane Hendricks have announced that they are buying the Beloit Snappers (Single-A, Midwest League) and proposing a new stadium near the Rock River behind Beloit City Hall.  Studer Entertainment & Retail currently co-owns the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Double-A, Southern League).  Read more here and here.  Watch news report here.

Governor’s Veto Could Impact Beloit’s Effort for Ballpark State Aid

A fund that could have allowed for tax dollars to be spent on building projects across the state, including a new downtown stadium for the Beloit Snappers (Single-A, Midwest League), has been partially vetoed by Governor Tony Evers.  Read more here.

Flolid Returns as Beloit’s GM

Former Board Prez Offers to Buy Snappers

A group called Throwing Cheese Baseball led by Brian Christianson, former board president of the Single-A Beloit Snappers (Midwest League), is offering to buy the club and keep the team in Beloit (WI).  In a three-page memo, the group makes the case for a private buyout of the franchise.  Read more here.

Minor League Baseball President Pat O’Conner was in Beloit (WI) Wednesday for the Single-A Beloit Snappers’ (Midwest League) Hot Stove Banquet.  During his visit, O’Conner said Beloit must decide its baseball future in the next few years as it relates to procuring a new or updated facility for the franchise.  Read more here.

Pohlman Concourse Renovation Nearing Completion

The Single-A Beloit Snappers are close to completing a renovation of the concourse at Pohlman Field.  The new concourse will feature a rain garden that will host natural vegetation and help the drainage of water from the concourse surface.  The project was funded by the city of Beloit (WI) at a cost of about $82,000.  View photo gallery here.

Snappers’ GM Steps Down

PRESS RELEASE – The Beloit Snappers Baseball Club has announced that Matthew Bosen will be stepping down as general manager. Bosen served as GM of the club for the past two seasons and during the previous four years as the director of ticket operations. He also assumed the assistant general manager role in 2011.

After a number of failed attempts over the years to replace outdated Pohlman Field, the Midwest League’s Beloit (WI) Snappers are back to the table with a proposal for a new $18-$20 million, 5,000-capacity stadium.  The ballpark would be located on a 20-acre site in the Beloit Gateway Business Park. 

Beloit Professional Baseball Adds Christianson to Board

Snappers Need New Stadium to Survive in Beloit

With their MLB parent club ready to open a shiney new stadium in Minneapolis, a topic of discussion at the Beloit Snappers’ Hot Stove Banquet was the future of the club in Beloit without a new ballpark.  Not suprisingly, the consensus by Jeff Vohs, the team’s GM, and George Spelius, the president of the Midwest league, was that the team will not be able to survive long-term at Pohlman Field.  Read more here.
