Minor League Baseball Attendance Reaches Nearly 40.5 Million in 2018

PRESS RELEASE – A total of 40,450,337 fans passed through the gates at Minor League Baseball games in 2018, marking the 14th consecutive season that Minor League Baseball’s 176 teams in 15 leagues drew more than 40 million fans.

Start-Up Expedition League Wraps Up Regular Season, Playoffs Underway

MiLB Attendance Tops 41.8 Million in 2017

PRESS RELEASE – A total of 41,832,364 fans passed through the gates at Minor League Baseball games in 2017, the fifth-highest attendance total in the history of the organization, which was established in 1901.

PRESS RELEASE – A total of 41,377,202 fans passed through the gates at Minor League Baseball games in 2016, marking the 12th consecutive year the organization drew over 41 million fans.

Dash Report Second-Largest Crowd in Franchise History

The Winston-Salem Dash (Single-A, Carolina League) took down the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 8-0 Monday Night in front of a reported 8,147 fans — the second largest crowd in franchise history.  Read more here.

Pickles Pack the Pickle Jar

The Portland Pickles (Summer Collegiate, Great West League) recovered from early miscues and a three-run deficit for an 8-5 win over the Lodi Crushers in front of a standing-room only crowd of over 2,500 at Walker Stadium on Sunday night.  Read more here.  View photos from Friday’s game here.

Blasters Seek Payment Forgiveness, Lease Restructuring to Save Team

Saying they cannot afford to operate in Joplin (MO) without a lease restructuring because of lower than expected paid attendance, the owners of the Joplin Blasters (Indy Pro, American Association) announced they want the Joplin City Council to forgive the $37,500 quarterly lease payment that was not paid on Oct. 1, and to reduce the annual lease in future seasons from $150,000 to $50,000.  Read more here.  View proposal here.  Watch news report here.

Time Ripe for Rangers Move to Downtown Dallas?

Should the Texas Rangers move from Arlington to Dallas? According to two local news outlets, yes, they should. Both D Magazine and Texas Monthly look directly at the team’s current location as the culprit for this season’s poor attendance, and see a move to downtown Dallas as an obvious fix.  Read more here.

Minor League Attendance Tops 42.5 Million

PRESS RELEASE – A total of 42,561,445 fans passed through the gates at Minor League Baseball games in 2015, marking the third-largest single-season total in the organization’s history, which currently consists of 176 teams in 15 leagues.

Tribe President: Ballpark Renovations Bolstering Attendance

Despite holding the second-worst record in Major League Baseball, attendance for the Cleveland Indians is up by 10 percent over last year, thanks to recent Progressive Field renovations, so says Tribe president Mark Shapiro.  Read more here.

Ballpark Business Releases 2014 Attendance Mega-Rankings

The Ballpark Business 2014 Per Game Average Attendance Mega-Rankings are here.  The Triple-A Charlotte Knights (International League) capture the top spot with their brand new ballpark.  The Winnipeg Goldeyes (American Association) are the best among the independent professional ranks at #33, while the Madison Mallards (Northwoods League) are once again the top summer collegiate performer at #24.

The annual list combines and ranks the per game average attendance of all affiliated, independent professional, and Top-50 (plus 15 more) summer collegiate franchises in North America.  View rankings here.

MLB Ends Minor Attendance Skid

After a drop in attendance the previous three seasons, MLB has a little something to cheer about.  This year, the 30 teams combined to average 30,229 fans per game, which is up from 30,067 last year.  The number is still below the record 32,785 fans per game set in 2007.  Read more here.

Ballpark Business Releases 2010 Attendance Mega-Rankings

The independent professional Atlantic League closed the book on the 2010 regular season on Sunday.  The playoffs will push forward, but the Ballpark Business 2010 Per Game Average Attendance Mega-Rankings are here.  The Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs (#1) top this year’s list, while the Long Island Ducks (#28) and Madison Mallards (#31) were the best in the independent professional and summer collegiate ranks, respectively.

Eastern League Sets New Attendance Mark

MiLB Attendance Up Nearly 1 Million Over 2009

PRESS RELEASE – Minor League Baseball clubs attracted nearly 7.9 million fans last month, raising the industry’s season total to 21,453,678 through June. This season’s total figure represents an increase of 943,704 fans over last year’s total, entering July.

Nearly 6 Million Attended MiLB Games in April

PRESS RELEASE – Minor League Baseball fans attended games in near record numbers through April, as 5,971,139 patrons accounted for the second highest total through the first month of domestic league play in history. The total through last month is second only to the 6,665,662 fans through April 2008, when Minor League Baseball set its attendance record of over 43.2 million.

GM Barry Wadsworth has things cooking in Holyoke, MA.  The franchise averaged over 1,200 per game (#31 in the 2009 Summer Collegiate Top 50), not including 4,800 for a game against Team USA and 4,906 for the NECBL All-Star game.
