PRESS RELEASE – The Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, will salute the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong becoming the first man to walk on the Moon with a Lunar Landing Night celebration on Saturday, July 20, 2019.
As part of the event, the team will wear special space suit jerseys* inspired by the ones worn on the Moon by Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during their historic Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Also, the first 1,000 fans age 15 and older will receive an astronaut-themed bobblehead, which will be announced at a later date, and a postgame fireworks show will follow the game.
“Plans for the 2019 season are almost complete,” said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “This is another example of how we love to work with other companies to promote and work together on timely, historic subjects such as this.”
The Flying Squirrels space suit jerseys will be auctioned during the game on July 20 with proceeds to benefit math and science education programs in Richmond-area schools.
To commemorate the release of Universal Pictures First Man, which chronicles the story of Armstrong and the Apollo 11 mission, the Flying Squirrels have partnered with CinéBistro at Stony Point Fashion Park to offer a limited-availability ticket package (available here). The first 50 fans to purchase the package will receive eight Field Level tickets to Lunar Landing Night or other games of their choice**, a guaranteed astronaut-themed bobblehead and a pair of movie passes to CinéBistro at Stony Point Fashion Park all for just $90.
Additional details for Lunar Landing Night, as well as the entire Flying Squirrels 2019 promotional lineup, will be announced at a later date.
