PRESS RELEASE – This Saturday, June 16, 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the award-winning baseball film Bull Durham. In the movie, Kevin Costner‘s character, Crash Davis, breaks the Minor League Home Run record at McCormick Field as a member of the Asheville Tourists.
In celebration of this anniversary, the Tourists will wear the uniforms featured in the movie when Asheville plays host to the Augusta GreenJackets at 6:05pm. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Crash Davis bobblehead, presented by Harry’s on the Hill.
The customized individual player’s uniforms are available for fans to own. Each uniform can be bid on during the online auction that runs from now until 11:59pm on Tuesday, June 19. Bids may be placed at TouristsAuctions.com. A buy-now option is also available. Proceeds raised from the Crash Davis auction will benefit the Asheville Tourists Children’s Fund.
ESPN named Saturday’s Crash Davis night at McCormick Field the Minor League Baseball Promotion of the Week. The Crash Davis uniforms the Tourists will wear have already been showcased on SportsCenter and Around the Horn.
Fans can pick up a limited-edition Crash Davis themed gameday program as they enter the front gates. The program features a 30-year overdue acknowledgement by the Sporting News of Crash’s record-breaking accomplishment. The full story, written by Ryan Fagan, can be found here.
