Great West League Adds San Francisco Seals to Lineup

PRESS RELEASE – The San Francisco Seals are joining the Great West League for the 2018 season. The Seals are an established independent summer college team that plays home games at the College of Alameda.

“By becoming a member of the Great West League, this will give the community a great opportunity to watch the pros of the future,” said Seals Baseball Club President Abel Alcantar. “We feel this league gives us the best opportunity to play competitive baseball and give our players a professional baseball atmosphere.”

The stadium at the College of Alameda recently added lights, a new scoreboard and a video monitor. Alameda is an island community in San Francisco Bay, just off downtown Oakland.

“The Seals have been around for decades and have a first class operation,” noted GWL Commissioner Ken Wilson. “Their organization is expanding their marketing efforts and we support the Seals effort to provide affordable family entertainment for the Alameda community and the surrounding area.”

The league announced that the Yuba City Bears will not operate in 2018, after sharing Colusa Casino Stadium with the Marysville Gold Sox in 2017. The Portland Pickles have left the league.
