PRESS RELEASE – The Lowell Spinners, short season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are proud to announce that they will be staying at LeLacheur Park after having signed a 10-year lease extension with the city of Lowell. Spinners’ owner Dave Heller made the announcement on the field prior to the first game of the season. The previous lease was signed in 2009 and set to expire after the 2018 season.
“Everyone with the Spinners is so pleased that Lowell and the team will be together for another decade at least,” said Heller. “From the day I bought this team, I made it clear that signing a new long-term lease in Lowell for the Spinners was my top priority, and I am delighted that we now have an agreement that allows us to begin improving, refurbishing and reimagining historic LeLacheur Park. The people of the Merrimack Valley deserve first-rate family-friendly entertainment in a first class venue, and we are committed to giving it to them.”
In addition to securing the team’s future in the city of Lowell, the new lease also provides for necessary facility upgrades to LeLacheur Park. Plans for renovation includes a new playing surface, the installation of new energy-efficient LED field lights, a new two-tiered party deck area in the right field, and many more big plans.
“The Spinners are a big part of what makes the city of Lowell great,” said City Manager Kevin Murphy. “I’m happy and proud to have tied them up for a minimum of an additional 10 years and hopefully beyond.
The Spinners wrap up their first home stand of the year on Tuesday, June 20 with a doubleheader slated to begin at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and available at lowellspinners.com or by calling the box office at (978) 459-1702.
