What Could Have Been Weekend is Back, Express Unveil ‘Jackalopes’ Logo and Uniforms

PRESS RELEASE – The Round Rock Express return home to the friendly confines of Dell Diamond on Thursday, June 1 to open a four-game series against the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Miami Marlins affiliate). The first three games of the series feature What Could Have Been Weekend with the Express transforming into the Jackalopes.

After last year’s wildly popular game featuring the Round Rock FireAnts, the team has dedicated an entire weekend to examining an alternate name from when the franchise was founded in 2000. Thanks to D.R. Horton, the team will don navy blue uniforms that feature the allegedly-mythical creature hopping over a custom Round Rock Jackalopes logo, created by Brandiose. The team will also sport Jackalopes ballcaps.

The jerseys will be auctioned during the final game of the series on Saturday, June 3. Proceeds from the auction will go to benefit Drive A Senior, a nonprofit organization that matches volunteer drivers with seniors needing a ride.

The Express will return to form on Sunday, June 4 for the third and final installment of Bark in the Park, presented by Action Pack Dog Center. Fans are encouraged to bring their four-legged friend to the ballpark for a special afternoon with Spike. Using coupon code “BARK” when purchasing tickets online, fans can redeem a special ticket package that includes an Express-branded PrideBites chew toy.

Sure it’s a merchandising promotion, but I really like these “What Could Have Been” nights. What do others think?

I love it! It allows teams to have more fun and sell more merchandise. Further, if a team held a name-the-team contest and rejected a brand because it was considered too controversial, it allows the team to still use and get bang out of it without taking the negative hits. For example, the New Hampshire Primaries branding package designed by Dan Simon from Studio Simon.
