The team will once again host a variety of promotions over the course of the 70 game regular season. Daily promotions will continue to offer great food specials and entertainment to fans; with eleven post-game Friday fireworks shows and Baseball Bingo at select Wednesday home games. Thursday games will now feature a 70s theme as the night has been rebranded as “Throwback Thursday” and the team will suit up in custom orange faux throwback uniforms. Fans will still be able to enjoy two dollar drink specials at Thursday home games.
Hot Rods fans will find their favorite promotions from seasons past sprinkled throughout the schedule. The Faith & Family Night Series kicks off on May 12 with additional dates in June and August. Bowling Green Ballpark will be fit for royalty again this season with the addition of three Princess Nights, April 28, June 23, and August 18; all three games will feature a princess meet and greet for fans. Memorial Day Weekend will honor our local first responders and military personnel as part of the team’s annual Red, White, and Blue Weekend. And July 22 will mark the return of the 2016 MiLB Promo of the Year, “Bootlegger” Night where the team will once again transform into the Bowling Green Bootleggers.
At select Saturday games this season, fans will be able to pick up collectible giveaway items beginning on Opening Day where fans will receive a 2017 magnet schedule. Other giveaway items that will be available throughout the season include: a hunting camo hat, Bowling Green Ballpark canvas print, aviator sunglasses, 2017 team card set, bucket hat, adult Christmas jersey, youth baseball jersey, Bootlegger flask, Hot Rods backpack, and Das Boot stein. The team’s Fourth of July Spectacular will feature Dueling Pianos to serenade guests as we celebrate America and its favorite pastime. On select Sundays, PBS characters including Curious George and Super Why! will also make a return appearance to the Bluegrass State.
The Hot Rods will continue its support of local non-profit organizations through specialty jersey auctions at select games during the season. This season will feature five unique jerseys: a fishing themed jersey will be available on Outdoorsman Night (April 29) in support of the American Cancer Society. On May 27, the Hot Rods will wear a Top Gun themed jersey featuring patches honoring the four entities honored on Red, White, and Blue Weekend; all proceeds will benefit the Buddy House. Margaritaville takes over Bowling Green Ballpark on June 24 in which the players will don Hawaiian themed jerseys benefiting Stuff the Bus. Bootlegger Night (July 22) will once again feature a unique look with proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association. And the specialty jersey season will conclude on August 21, a game in which both the Hot Rods and Whitecaps will wear uniforms replicating the solar eclipse slated to take place. Jerseys for both teams will be available to bid on and will be worn in support of Norton Children’s Hospital.
The 2017 season wouldn’t be complete without the addition of some new promotions. The Hot Rods will host two Free TV Fridays in which four fans will have the opportunity to take home a brand new television. May 13 will mark the team’s first Pink Out the Park event to honor Mother’s Day and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides campaign. On August 21, the Hot Rods will host the “Ballpark Blackout” in honor of the solar eclipse. Fans will receive custom glasses in order to properly enjoy the solar eclipse experience, which is expected to take place during the Hot Rods game that day.
“Last year was a great year for the franchise after winning the MiLB Promo of the Year for our Bootlegger Night and I really challenged our staff to step it up this year,” said Hot Rods General Manager Eric C. Leach. “We’re excited to bring back fan favorites and also to add in some new things to our schedule to really enhance the fan experience at Bowling Green Ballpark.”
In addition to new promotions this year, fans will also notice a change in ticket prices when heading to the box office. Ticket prices have been lowered and streamlined for all games and will now feature three price points for advance ticket buyers. Ticket prices will increase by $4.00 for day of game buyers, with the exception of Kroger Korner tickets.
Finally, fans will notice a cosmetic change to Bowling Green Ballpark this season. It was recently announced that the center field grass berm has been reconstructed to feature a three-tiered seating area and will include Adirondack chairs, fire pit, cornhole, life size Jenga, and a bar area for patrons 21 and older. The new area will be known as The Hangout and is accessible to any fan with a game ticket.
The Hot Rods will host their annual Fan Fest event on Saturday, March 4 from 1 – 3 PM at Bowling Green Ballpark. Fans can purchase single game tickets, pick-up previously purchased ticket packages, take ballpark tours, receive discounts on merchandise, sample new concession items, and enter for a chance to win a free TV courtesy of McGown TV Sales & Service.
