PRESS RELEASE – The Wichita State baseball program will be working with League 42 to open Section 42 at Eck Stadium. The Shockers have worked with League 42 over the past few years including holding clinics for the kids every year and helping with an annual golf tournament that raises money for League 42.
“Little League is where the love for this game starts,” WSU Head Coach Todd Butler said. “League 42 has done an amazing job of getting young boys and girls to enjoy and start loving baseball. Our players and staff have enjoyed working with League 42 with our annual clinic for them. It has been great seeing them enjoy a day with the Shocker baseball players and watching them learn the game. Now with the League 42 ticket section, they can enjoy it with their whole family, whether it be a day game or the whole weekend. I think it’s not only great for League 42, but it’s great for the university, community and city. Shocker Baseball loves League 42 and we will continue to help in any way we can.”
Section 42 will be located in the first 10 rows of Section J, which is approximately 200 seats. Members of League 42 will be able to come to the WSU Ticket Office and request a ticket for themselves and four guests for each home game at Eck Stadium.
League 42, named in honor of the great Jackie Robinson, is a youth baseball league in Wichita comprised primarily of urban players, ages 5-14 that was started in 2013 and includes more than 500 kids.
“League 42 is thrilled by this offer of generosity from Wichita State and its baseball program,” said Bob Lutz of League 42. “I know our kids and families will love attending Shocker games and that Shocker Baseball can count on a bunch of new fans.”
Section 42 will be dedicated on Feb. 13.
