PRESS RELEASE – This year marks the 25th anniversary of the filming of The Babe at Danville Stadium. And the Danville Dans invite the public to join in an evening celebrating that historic event.
“The Babe” is the story of famed baseball player Babe Ruth. Stars like John Goodman (who portrayed Ruth), Kelly McGillis, and Richard Tyson, among others, were at Danville Stadium July 1-12, 1991 for scenes set at Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field and Boston’s Fenway Park.
Many locals from the Danville area were invited to take part in the filming – from extras in the stands to additional ball players, along with carpenters, caterers, seamstresses and many more. The experience also lives on in the memories of those who were lucky enough to watch the film come to life.
During the July 29th game with the Lafayette Aviators, the Dans will honor everyone that took part in the filming here in Danville. Those who participated as extras or assisted in the making of the film are invited to the game free of charge.
In addition, the City of Danville Recreation Department is planning to show the movie The Babe on their outdoor screen after the game. Everyone attending the game is invited to stay and watch the moving, weather permitting.
Fans can find complete details about the season on the team’s website, http://www.DanvilleDans.com, or on Facebook or Twitter.
