‘Kokomo Mantis’ FC to Compliment Jackrabbits at Kokomo Municipal Stadium

PRESS RELEASE – The fans of the Kokomo Mantis FC now have a name to get behind when rooting for their local soccer team.

“After thinking about how we can best represent the city through a name, we looked to nominations that were not only unique, but names that had a local tie. With that, we narrowed it down and found the Mantis not only to be extremely marketable but also have an easily identifiable local source. That local source being KokoMantis. We in fact believe KokoMantis may even be adopted as a fan nickname for the team.” said Mike Zimmerman, CEO and owner of the Kokomo Mantis. Zimmerman is also the owner of MKE Sports and Entertainment, LLC, the operating entity of the Mantis and Kokomo Jackrabbits.

“With the announcement of today’s final design choice for the Mantis name, it is also thrilling to unveil the team branding which features striking colors and a strong visual of the Mantis. Thank you to the community for your support and help in making this franchise development a true team effort. We are looking forward to future soccer progress announcements and can’t wait to see everyone at Kokomo Municipal Stadium this summer to develop new traditions as we premier some of the best collegiate soccer players in the country.”

“Kokomo Mantis FC is named after the iconic, discussion-creating, and even lovable, public art piece the KokoMantis. We are happy about the fan’s and MKE’s decision to name our soccer team after it. The Kokomo area is a large, untapped market for PDL soccer, so we are excited about the passionate, loyal following Kokomo Mantis FC will generate.” Said Mayor Greg Goodnight.

The PDL season is played from early June through mid-August in concert with the Kokomo Jackrabbits season. The teams will act as anchor tenants during the Summer at the Stadium. The team will unveil uniforms and the schedules in early Spring.

Christopher Cox has been chosen as the winner of the name of the team contest. Cox submitted Kokomo Mantis as his suggested team name. Cox has won tickets, $1,000 cash, and team merchandise. Team merchandise will be unveiled by the team along with the uniforms in the near future.
