PRESS RELEASE – For the first time in their history, the Kenosha Kingfish will host the 2016 Northwoods League All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 19th. The Northwoods League All-Star Game will be held at historic Simmons Field with gates opening at 5:30pm and the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
The Kingfish are proposing a one of a kind, unique baseball event the day before the Northwoods League All-Star Game. Pending approvals from the City of Kenosha, the Kingfish will host the Northwoods League Home Run Derby at the Harbor, featuring the top NWL sluggers launching baseballs into Lake Michigan. The event will take place at the intersection of 52nd Street and 6th Avenue in Kenosha. From the pier extending out into the harbor, NWL All-Stars will be partaking in a baseball first as they participate in a home run derby on water. A buoy line replicating the field dimensions of historic Simmons Field will be placed over the water to define a home run boundary. Fans are invited to enjoy food, beverage, live music, fireworks and kids games on land bordering the harbor for a ticketed event. Gates for the Home Run Derby at the Harbor will open at 5:30pm.
The annual Northwoods League All-Star Game has become the marquee event of the successful league entering its 23rd year of existence. The event annually attracts sellout crowds to the host ballpark and an average of over 60 MLB scouts.
“The greater Kenosha community has truly embraced our team and deserves a special event like this,” said Kingfish General Manager Jake McGhee, “We always want Kingfish fans to expect the unexpected and the Home Run Derby at the Harbor is just that. We are thrilled to bring this type of entertainment to Downtown Kenosha.”
Mayor Keith Bosman, members of the Kingfish front office, and the team Mascot will be available to the media for questions and photos at 10:00am today, Thursday, January 7th at the Kenosha Harbor, across from Navy Memorial Park and next to Common Grounds (5159 6th Avenue). “We are extremely excited to be hosting this great event in Kenosha,” City of Kenosha Mayor Keith Bosman said, “I attended the All-Star Game in Madison in 2012 and it is wonderful to have all of the stars of tomorrow playing at historic Simmons Field.”
