PRESS RELEASE – Before the Breeders’ Cup, there’s the Feeders’ Cup. On Saturday, October 24, six days before the Breeders’ Cup World Championships begin at Keeneland, Whitaker Bank Ballpark, home of the Lexington Legends, will be the scene of the Feeders’ Cup Invitational.
The Feeders’ Cup Invitational, organized and run by Smiley Pete Publishing of Lexington, is a competition that will determine the favorite food trucks among 20 that will take part in the event. The trucks, which will represent cities around Kentucky and in nearby states, will be parked along the warning track bordering the fences at the ballpark.
A panel of judges and the public attending the event will have an opportunity to taste items from each truck and then vote in five categories: Best Sweet, Best Southern Classic, Best World Fusion, Best Farm to Table and Best Overall. The winners will earn the right to sell and serve all of their menu items at the #Sharethelex Winners’ Stretch at Short Street and Cheapside October 27-31.
The Feeders’ Cup begins at 3 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m. Voting will close at 9 p.m. and winners will be announced at 9:30. Ticket prices are $20 in advance from Feederscup.com and $30 at the gate. Part of the proceeds will be donated to God’s Pantry.
“The Legends are glad to serve as host for the Feeders’ Cup,” said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. “It’s a really creative way to recognize some of the outstanding food businesses in our area. It’ll be a fun day at the ballpark and a great way to start the Breeders’ Cup Festival.”
