PRESS RELEASE – The Rockland Boulders announced on Monday the start of the 2015 Junior Broadcaster Competition, presented by the NY529 College Savings Program Direct Plan. Submissions for the competition will be open until Friday, August 14 with the top three competing live on the air as part of the Boulders Broadcast Network.
Seth Cantor, the “Voice of the Boulders” and the team’s Assistant General Manager, is enthusiastic about this contest, “What a special, unique, and rewarding opportunity for our young fans who have ambitions of a career in sports broadcasting. We look forward to this competition as I can’t wait to see who our first ‘Junior Voice of the Boulders will be!”
Aspiring broadcasters can enter by sliding to http://www.RocklandBoulders.com and filling out the online entry form by clicking “Junior Broadcaster” under the “Kids Korner” tab. Contestants will be asked to provide their Name, Age, City/State, and a short essay explaining why they want to be a broadcaster. Kids ages 7-14 are eligible for the competition, with the grand prize including an opportunity to join Seth on the Boulders Broadcast Network, during the 2015 season.
Three finalists will be announced on Monday, August 17 with each competitor being invited to call one inning of color commentary during a game with the “Voice of the Boulders” as part of Rockland’s six-game home stand August 18-23. Each finalist will also receive a commemorative “Boulders Broadcast Network” shirt, while throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on the date they will broadcast. The winner will be invited back on another 2015 broadcast with the chance of calling play-by-play.
Submissions will be accepted until close of business on Friday, August 14 with the top three finalists being notified by Monday, August 17. The Boulders Broadcast Network broadcasts all 54 Rockland Boulders home games live on radio, with select road games included. This season has also seen an expansion in both online video and local television with more than 25 home games being shown on Verizon Fios1 News and Cablevision.
