Over 4,000 Fans Per Night Hand Grizzlies First-Ever Back-to-Back Sellouts

Gastonia Grizzlies LogoPRESS RELEASE – The Gastonia Grizzlies have sold out back to back games for the first time in franchise history.

On Saturday May 30th, the Grizzlies welcomed their largest single game crowd with 4,409 in attendance. On the next home game on Friday June 5th, 4,396 fans came out to Sims Legion Park. More than 4,500 tickets were sold for both games bringing over capacity crowds to the ballpark. The May 30th game sold out more than a month in advance, while the June 5th game sold out the day of.

Fans watched as the Grizzlies led dramatic come from behind victories on both dates. On May 30th, the Grizzlies scored three runs in the 9th to beat the High Point – Thomasville Hi-Toms 4-3. On June 5th the Grizzlies scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat the Morehead City Marlins 5-3.

Large groups were responsible for a majority of the tickets for each night including more than fifty churches for the June 5th Faith & Family Night.

“This is the first time we’ve had to completely cut off tickets sales for back to back games,” said Owner Jesse Cole.

“The support so far this season is overwhelming,” said Owner Jesse Cole. “To sell out back to back games is a tribute to this community and their amazing support. We can’t thank all of season ticket holders, sponsors and groups enough for being a part of these special games.”

The Grizzlies are back home next week with games Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Saturday night’s game is expected to sell out with the special Chick-fil-A deal that includes four tickets, four Grizzlies hats and four Chick-fil-A meals for $7.50 a person. The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 19th season in 2015, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Further more, the CPL has had over 1,200 alumni drafted and 75 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far; while another notable alum – Russell Wilson – won Super Bowl XLVIII.
