Rockland BouldersNew Jersey Jackals LogoPRESS RELEASE – For the first time in over six years, professional baseball returns to historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y. when the Rockland Boulders host the New Jersey Jackals on July 17, 2015 for a 2:00 pm start. Rockland Boulders Cooperstown Classic

“We targeted Cooperstown to play a game because it is just that; Cooperstown,” said Ken Lehner, Boulders Team President. “From the history, to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, to Doubleday Field, it is the epitome of baseball. July 17, 2015 will be one of the most memorable days in the history of the Rockland Boulders organization for our players, our fans, and our corporate partners.”

Doubleday Field, considered by many to be the “Home of Baseball”, was built in 1920 and for almost 70 years hosted an annual showcase of Major League talent in the annual Hall of Fame Game. From 1940 to 2008, two MLB teams would play one another during Hall of Fame induction weekend before the yearly ritual ended in 2008 when the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres had their contest rained out.

However, professional baseball continued into the following season with the “Cooperstown Classic”, a matchup of minor league teams from the International League. The Oneonta Yankees, of the New York-Penn League, played one game a year at Doubleday Field before the team moved to Connecticut in 2010. The final Cooperstown Classic saw the Pawtucket Red Sox defeat the Syracuse Chiefs 15-3 on Sunday, June 14, 2009 meaning this matchup between the Boulders and Jackals will be the first professional ballgame at Doubleday Field in more than six seasons.

“What a great day this is for the Boulders,” claimed Rockland manager Jamie Keefe. “A chance to play at Doubleday Field and visit the Hall of Fame of our National Pastime. As a fan, staff member, coach or player this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

All Rockland Boulders corporate partners, current, and future season ticket holders will be invited as VIP guests of the organization. Buses for Boulders guests will be provided from Provident Bank Park to Cooperstown, leaving promptly at 8:00 am and arriving at 11:00 am for the 2:00 pm contest. All Boulders guests who attend the game will also receive tickets to enjoy the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, while being invited to a postgame reception with the Boulders players and coaches. For more information regarding corporate partnerships or season tickets, please call the Boulders offices at 845-364-0009.

“This is just such a thrilling opportunity,” added Lehner. “The excitement surrounding this game has already lead to talks with the Quebec City Les Capitales about returning to Cooperstown in 2016 in what is sure to be another ‘Can-Am Classic’.”

Complimentary individual tickets for this historic trip to Cooperstown will be available via the official team website – http://www.RocklandBoulders.com – at a later date so all who wish to attend are welcome to.
