Asheville Tourists 100th Anniversary LogoProfessional Baseball in the city of Asheville began in 1897 with the Asheville Moonshiners; however, it was in 1915 when the club first adopted the name Tourists after using the nickname Mountaineers the previous two seasons. Local newspapers started referring to the club as “Tourists” since the ballplayers hailed from all over the map. Once the team took on the name they won first place in both halves of the North Carolina State League in the 1915 season.

The 100th anniversary will be celebrated a number of ways throughout the 2015 season. In addition to hosting the South Atlantic League All-Star game on June 23rd, McCormick Field will hold several promotions during select Asheville Tourists home games that directly connect with the club’s history over the past 100 years.

“We are proud to celebrate the history and tradition of the Tourists name,” said Tourists President Brian DeWine. “None of which would have been possible without the decades of support by the Asheville community.”

The Tourists have also released a commemorative 100th Anniversary logo comprised of a baseball diamond, the official Tourists script, and the years 1915-2015. The team will wear the 100th year logo as a patch on the side of their Alternate Caps this season.

The celebration begins on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 7:05pm when the Asheville Tourists face the Greenville Drive at McCormick Field for the season’s home opener. Season tickets and flex ticket packages are currently on sale. Call the ServPro Box Office at (828)258-0428 to book your seats today.
