PRESS RELEASE – Can-Am League commissioner Miles Wolff announced on Wednesday that the league has added members in Sussex County, N.J., and Ottawa, Ontario, for the 2015 season.
Sussex County will play at Skylands Park in Augusta, N.J., which recently received $2 million in renovations. The stadium was home to the Can-Am League’s Sussex Skyhawks, the 2008 league champions, from 2006 to 2010.
As announced earlier in the year, the Ottawa Champions are set to take the field at 10,000-seat Ottawa Stadium. The Triple-A affiliate of the Montreal Expos, Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies played at the park from 1993 to 2007, while the stadium also hosted the Can-Am League’s Ottawa Rapidz in 2008.
All four league members from last year will return: the Quebec Capitales and Trois-Rivieres Aigles, both from the province of Quebec; the New Jersey Jackals, based in Little Falls, N.J.; and the defending league champion Rockland Boulders of Pomona, N.Y.
Can-Am League clubs will play a total of 100 interleague games throughout the season against the 13-team American Association. A road team will be added to the Can-Am League to provide a balanced schedule.
“We’re excited to add both of these excellent markets to the league,” said Wolff. “Between the clubs from the Can-Am League and opponents from the American Association, fans and players will see a wide variety of strong, competitive teams.”
Teams will play a 97-game regular-season schedule from May 21 to September 7. The top four finishers will qualify for the postseason, which features best-of-five semifinals and finals.
