The Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League) are in talks to buy the summer collegiate Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League). The purchase has already been approved by the Midwest League and the President of Minor League Baseball. There are still a few other hoops to jump through here, but it looks like a done deal. Don’t be surprised to see more and more of these deals happening. We know of several exploratory efforts going on.

Alan, when you say “these deals,” are you talking about professional teams purchasing collegiate teams, or just any organization purchasing another? Thanks.
Purchasing, launching, partnering with…There are some good synergies. And, with a limited number of affiliated clubs available for purchase by current affilated owners who might want to expand their portfolio, coupled with current restrictions on affilated owners owning indy pro teams, I predict more of this is coming. Like affiliated and indy pro ball before them, summer collegiate ownership is evolving and becoming less and less mom & pop.

Thanks Alan.
