PRESS RELEASE – The Tri-City ValleyCats have announced that a brand new, state-of-the- art, LED video board will be installed prior to the 2014 season, which will significantly enhance the fan experience at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The board will be the largest main video display in the New York-Penn League.
Following a bid process, LSI Industries was selected for the project, and will install their SMARTVISION display. The video board will measure at approximately 36 feet wide by 17 feet high, and feature 20mm TRUE pixel technology.
“LSI is excited to be selected to manufacture and provide the new LSI SMARTVISION video display at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The opportunity to collaborate with TSE on another NY-Penn League facility provides a great working relationship for this project. The LSI display will provide years of excitement for the fans as well as a high quality reliable system for the ValleyCats,” said Ross Sferra, LSI Industries.
The new video board will replace the old display in left field, and will provide the fans with a more up close and personal view of the action, both on the field and in the stands.
“The ValleyCats remain committed to providing the best possible experience for our fans, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce this game changing enhancement for the 2014 season,” said ValleyCats Vice President / General Manager, Rick Murphy.” “This new video board will create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that will tremendously improve the way our fans enjoy ValleyCats baseball, our award winning promotions, and family friendly entertainment.”
In order to determine the best possible solution for upgrading the video experience at “The Joe,” the ValleyCats utilized TSE Services, experts in sports-franchise consulting services.
“It was a pleasure to collaborate with the ValleyCats management team in order to design a first-class videoboard for Joseph L. Bruno Stadium,” Bob Masewicz, Owner and Chief Consultant for TSE Services said. “ValleyCats fans will thoroughly enjoy the enhanced entertainment experience it creates.”
The entire scope of the project will cost approximately $300 thousand, which will be paid for by the Tri-City ValleyCats through a financing agreement with Hudson Valley Community College over the remaining term of their lease.
Hudson Valley’s baseball team also calls Joseph L. Bruno Stadium home, and the college utilizes the facility each year for their commencement ceremony. “The Joe” also plays host to numerous high school baseball games each spring.
“Our partnership with the ValleyCats has provided an incredible venue for baseball and community events for more than a decade. We’re looking forward to the stadium upgrades, as well as welcoming fans to campus for another successful season,” said Hudson Valley Community College President Drew Matonak.
Along with a brand new video board, the ValleyCats will also utilize a new mobile application to interact and engage with fans through their smartphones. “MiLB Inside the Park” is a free app built specifically for Minor League Baseball clubs, and provides fans with an inning-by-inning feed of all contests and events taking place during each game.
Fans will be able to vote on who they think will win each promotion taking place on the field, earn coupons from ValleyCats partners, sign-up to participate in contests, and even share photos of their ballpark experience through social media. The app also includes maps, game schedules, ticket links, and keeps points for the most interactive fans.
“Our goal each night is to keep our fans entertained and engaged throughout the game. The ‘MiLB Inside the Park’ app will now allow each fan with a smartphone, the opportunity to be part of our gameday experience like never before,” said Murphy.
The ‘Cats will look to defend their New York-Penn League championship title as they begin the 2014 season at home on Friday, June 13 at 7pm vs. the Connecticut Tigers. 2014 will be the 13th season of Minor League Baseball at “The Joe,” and the 75th anniversary of the New York-Penn League.
