15-Year MiLB Veteran Joines Thunder Broadcast Team

Trenton Thunder LogoPRESS RELEASE – The Thunder announced today that John Rodgers has been named the new Director, Broadcasting/Corporate Sales and will make his debut on the Thunder Radio Network at this Thursday’s game against the Reading Fightin’ Phils (Philadelphia). The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on 91.3 FM and trentonthunder.com with game time at ARM & HAMMER Park slated for 7:05pm.

Trenton Thunder John RogersRodgers served as the Radio Broadcaster for the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Class A, Midwest League) from 1996-2010. In addition to calling the action for more than 2,000 games for the then Los Angeles Angels affiliate, Rodgers founded and led the Kernels Summer Reading Program and sold sponsorships and tickets. He was also an active volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rotary International Service Organization, and America Reads.

“We’re excited to have John join our staff. He’s a complete professional both on the air and in the front office,” said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. “His integration into the Central Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania communities will greatly benefit the Thunder and enhance our impression in these communities.”

For the last two years, Rodgers has been part of the St. Louis Cardinals Customer Relations Department as a Busch Stadium Tour Guide and Cardinals Academic Program (CAP) Facilitator. The 2013 Cardinals Tour Guide of the Year was also a host in the Cardinals Family Pavilion on game days.

Rodgers is a 1980 graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, IL and holds a Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration from Springfield College. Previously, Rodgers served as Athletic Director at Costa Catholic School in Galesburg, IL (1980-1982) and Head Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Carleton College in Northfield, MN (1986-1992).

Rodgers will call all Thunder home games, oversee the Thunder Radio Network, and be part of the sponsorship sales team. Adam Giardino, who is in his second season with the Thunder, will continue to call all home and road games.

The Thunder Radio Network consists of flagship station WTSR 91.3 FM located at The College of New Jersey in Ewing as well as WBCB 1410 AM (select games), trentonthunder.com, and MiLB.TV.

The Thunder will begin a four-game weekend series with the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Thursday at ARM & HAMMER Park. Tickets are available at trentonthunder.com or by calling 609-394-3300.
