Tobs Hire Former Catcher, Pump Jacks Voice as New Broadcaster

Wilson Tobs Primary SDSPRESS RELEASE – As per usual there will be plenty of new faces around Fleming Stadium this summer, and in addition to the new faces there will be a new voice; the Tobs announced today that Jake Donnelly will be the new Director of Broadcasting for the 2014 season.

Wilson Tobs Hire former Pump Jacks Broadcaster Jake DonnellyDonnelly, a native of Connecticut, spent last summer as the play by play broadcaster for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League and is currently calling collegiate baseball and softball games throughout New England. Donnelly has a wealth of experience when it comes to calling collegiate sports, having just finished up a stint as the lead play by play broadcaster for the renowned D-III Middlebury Men’s Hockey program, but baseball was and is his first love.

As a backup catcher on the D-III Trinity College Bantams baseball team, Donnelly won a National Championship in 2008 and actually spent the better half of a summer as the bullpen catcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays AA affiliate) of the Eastern League.

Donnelly says his experience behind home plate gives him a better understanding of what the players are going through on the field and off, “One of the things I think people don’t realize is how hard it is to maintain a high level of concentration for these players. These are just college students who are feeling the rigors of a full schedule for the first time in their life, and the adjustments sometimes take a while.”

Like most of the Tobs roster, Donnelly will not arrive in Wilson for another couple of weeks, but the clock can’t move fast enough; “I can’t describe how genuinely excited I am for this opportunity. I love broadcasting and I love the thrill of arriving at the ball park every day not knowing what is going to transpire,” said Donnelly, brimming with excitement. “I hope Tobs fans and the rest of the Coastal Plain League enjoy what I do in the broadcast booth and I promise to do my best to make this season an entertaining one for everybody.”

The Tobs season kicks off with an exhibition tilt against the Fuquay Varina Twins on May 25th at 6 P.M. at Fleming Stadium. Post game fireworks follow so come on out and start the season with a blast!
