PRESS RELEASE – In an effort to better connect with fans at Progressive Field, the Indians, in partnership with Verizon Wireless, have rolled out a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) and Wi-Fi network.
These updates offer fans easier, more reliable access to social media and allow them to check in on popular apps such as MLB.com’s At The Ballpark while at Progressive Field.
“This implementation will significantly enhance fans’ digital experience at the ballpark by making social media and their favorite apps more easily accessible, as well as completing common functions like making a call or sending an email or text,” said Neil Weiss, the Indians Senior Vice President of Technology and Chief Information Officer.
The DAS is an in-building network solution that features separate antennas, each of which boosts Verizon’s high-speed 4G LTE network strength as well as capacity to ensure optimum network performance and the ability to accommodate thousands of fans using their smartphones. The Wi-Fi network provides additional Internet coverage throughout the ballpark.
“There’s nothing more exciting than watching live baseball and being able to share the experience with friends via social media,” said Mark Frazier, Region President for the Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. “Our network team worked closely with the Cleveland Indians to deploy this new DAS and Wi-Fi network to ensure fans experience a fast, reliable network during the game.”
The new coverage also will allow fans to tweet game action or interact with the Indians on Twitter (@Indians) and check in on At The Ballpark, which this year will offer fans exclusive deals when they do check in at Progressive Field.
“The new DAS and Wi-Fi provide the platform for which technology can enhance the experience at the ballpark and can help to further create memories for our fans,” said Indians President Mark Shapiro.
