PRESS RELEASE – The West Virginia Power, a Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are pleased to announced their 2014 promotional schedule. The 2014 season marks the Power’s tenth at Appalachian Power Park and comes filled with brand new promotional nights, giveaways and special appearances in addition to the return of some familiar theme nights and 17 fireworks shows.
The month of April showers Power fans with giveaways. Opening weekend giveaways include schedule magnets and throw blankets on April 10 along with a Starling Marte Bobblehead on April 12.
On April 26, the Power will honor the 35th anniversary of the 1979 Pittsburgh World Series win with a championship ring replica giveaway. The team will also induct another class onto the Charleston baseball Wall of Fame. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for the new Wall of Fame members during March.
A tenth season pennant giveaway on May 9 will provide the perfect addition for the Charleston baseball fans’ collectibles. WVU and Marshall fans alike will find at least one night to get along on May 17 for a joint Don Nehlen and Bob Pruett bobblehead giveaway. The Power’s third annual Redneck Night is back on May 24 featuring a Mason Jar giveaway and all your favorite shenanigans.
Chuck, the Power mascot, will celebrate his birthday on June 14. Kids 12 and under will have a chance to win one of over 100 bicycles that will be given away. Baseball’s most entertaining act, the ZooperStars, will visit Appalachian Power Park on June 28.
National recording artists Red Wanting Blue will perform on July 3 after a holiday fireworks show. The month also includes a stadium replica giveaway, 1980’s night featuring BBoy McCoy, and Wrestling Night with a special guest appearance by WWE Hall-of-Famer Mick Foley with a tenth season rally towel giveaway.
The inaugural Football Night in Charleston will be held on August 2 featuring a tailgate party-inspired giveaway and an appearance by BirdZerk, America’s Ballpark Prankster. The ZooperStars return for an encore appearance on August 3. August 23 is Back-to-School Night with a backpack giveaway. The Power will honor former outfielder Gregory Polanco on August 29 with a bobblehead of his own.
