PRESS RELEASE – Hungry fans interested in satisfying their appetites at BB&T Ballpark will be able to do so all season long as the Charlotte Knights revealed Sahlen’s as the team’s official Hot Dog provider at a press conference held at Romare Bearden Park earlier today. Bimbo Bakeries, a local Charlotte manufacturer and distributer of baked goods, provided Ball Park buns for today’s media event. The Knights will serve Sahlen’s Hot Dogs and Ball Park buns throughout BB&T Ballpark all season.
“Hot dogs are synonymous with baseball, and we are thrilled to offer our fans delicious dogs from Sahlen’s,” said Knights General Manager of Baseball Operations Scotty Brown. “After sampling some of Sahlen’s great products back in August, we knew that they were the right company for the Knights, BB&T Ballpark, and more importantly, our fans.”
Sahlen’s is well-known for its signature Smokehouse Hot Dogs and deli meats with carved-off-the-bone flavor and texture. The company, which was founded in Buffalo in 1869, is working to build a presence south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and has identified great market potential in North Carolina.
“Our partnership with the Knights is like a match made in heaven,” said Sahlen’s Regional Manager Chris Cauley. “The excitement the Knights bring to the Charlotte market is the perfect showcase for our hot dogs. It’s our goal to serve the best hot dog you can get at any sports venue.”
Erik Hassy, General Manager of Ovations Food Services — the team’s official food service provider — estimates roughly 20,000 pounds (10 tons) of Sahlen’s Hot Dogs are expected to be consumed at BB&T Ballpark this season. With that estimate, nearly 140,000 hot dogs, or over 1,800 hot dogs per game will be enjoyed by Knights fans at BB&T Ballpark this year.
“Ovations Food Services’ commitment to quality and freshly served products sealed the deal for us,” added Cauley. “I know the fans will walk away saying what a wonderful ballpark it is and if they tried one of our hot dogs they will definitely be back for more.”
Along with affordable, tasty hot dogs throughout the season, the Knights will serve Sahlen’s Hot Dogs at BB&T Ballpark for just $1 on three occasions this season. Fans can chow down on delicious $1 hot dogs on Monday, May 5, Monday, June 9, and again on Monday, August 25.
Representatives from Pepsi — the official beverage provider of the Knights – were also on hand for Tuesday’s event. The Knights announced their long-term partnership with Pepsi Bottling Ventures – a Carolina-born beverage company – back on February 5. Fans at BB&T Ballpark will be able to enjoy all Pepsi products, including Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Mountain Dew, and Diet Mountain. Aquafina water and Gatorade will also be available for fans at the team’s new Uptown Charlotte ballpark.
The Knights will open BB&T Ballpark on Friday, April 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides. Season tickets, as well as group tickets and 18-game partial season ticket plans for the 2014 inaugural season at BB&T Ballpark, are on sale now and can be purchased by phone at 704-357-8071 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Single-game tickets for all 72 home games, as well as the Gildan Triple-A National Championship game and the USA Baseball vs. Chinese Taipei game, will go on sale on March 8 at 9 a.m. in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office.
