PRESS RELEASE – The Smokies will air 22 consecutive weeks of programming on WKNX beginning April 5, 2014 and tentatively concluding on August 30,2014. The yet to be named show airing every Saturday morning at 8:30 AM will be a behind the scenes look at the 2014 Smokies baseball team and the fun things that abound at Smokies Stadium. The show will take fans into the clubhouse with the players, on the road with the 2014 Smokies and other places not normally available to fans. “All Access” will be the principal theme behind the content of the show.
WKNX General Manager Neal Davis remarked, “WKNX, “The Knox”, is excited to be partnering with Tennessee Smokies Baseball on their new television show. The Smokies are an important part of the East Tennessee community. This show will give them a great platform to reach out to this region to highlight the excitement that is Smokies baseball. We are fortunate to have such a quality organization in our backyard providing great family fun, a connection to major league baseball and the foundation for the major league baseball stars of tomorrow. We love the idea of having this show on our station, which gives the fans an opportunity to see what goes on inside the Smokies organization and what it takes to be a professional athlete today. The Knox is proud to be associated with the Smokies and this initiative.”
“Instead of a traditional highlights show, this will provide a “backstage” look at the players as well as the Smokie’s great family entertainment experience”, stated Smokies President Doug Kirchhofer. “WKNX will be a great partner and we appreciate their confidence in this exciting, new venture”, he added.
“This arrangement with WKNX is quite significant in every respect for the Smokies. This will afford us the opportunity to reach both die hard and casual fans in a way that is unprecedented in minor league baseball”, said Chris Allen, Smokies Vice President of Business Operations. “This is major league in every aspect”, he continued.
The Smokies will immediately begin a nationwide search for a host of the show.
WKNX airs locally on channel 7 in HD on every delivery system except for WOW (formerly Knology) subscribers who can tune to channel 10 on their system. This arrangement provides the Smokies with 100% market penetration.
The Smokies will produce the show in High Definition and will utilize their full promotional inventory they possess to promote viewership of the show. Fans visiting Smokies Stadium will consistently be reminded of where and when to tune in.
