The summer collegiate Junction City Brigade have joined the newly formed Great Plains League – not to be confused with the Great Plains Baseball League turned Midwest Collegiate League.
The second year Brigade, which began play at historic Rathert Stadium as in independent summer collegiate club in 2013, join the Rossville Rattlers, Topeka Golden Giants, and Topeka Senators. Two other franchises are expected to be announced soon to lift the league’s 2014 lineup to six.
As a side note, Rathert Stadium is the former home of the independent summer collegiate Junction City Generals, which went on indefinite hiatus after the 2010 season. The Generals could never find a workable league to play in, after plans for the proposed Central Plains League failed to develop.
