Boomers Named Frontier League Organization of the Year

Schaumburg Boomers LogoPRESS RELEASE – The Schaumburg Boomers, playoff bound in just their second season, were voted the 2013 Frontier League Organization of the Year, it was announced today.

“For the Boomers, being named Organization of the Year is about as good as it gets, and we’re extremely humbled to be recognized this way by the 13 other outstanding teams in the Frontier League,” Boomers President and General Manager Andy Viano said. “I’ve maintained from the day we started this club almost two years ago that we have the best front office staff, best ownership, and one of the best ballparks anywhere in minor league baseball, and I’m so proud of our incredible, passionate, hard-working staff, our owners, Pat & Lindy Salvi, and so for thankful to our great fans, without whom we certainly would not have received this honor.”

One year after launching as an expansion franchise in the 14-team Frontier League, 2013 has been a tremendous success both at the box office and on the field for the Boomers.

With three home games still to be played in the regular season, Schaumburg has seen nearly a 20% increase at the turnstiles in 2013 with just over 3,000 fans a night, which is up from 2,515 from 2012. Building on the momentum from the Boomers first sellout in franchise history when 7,578 witnessed a 4-1 victory on June 19, the Boomers surpassed total attendance for all of 2012 (128,287) on August 17. The Boomers currently rank third in the Frontier League in overall attendance with 141,003, and that number will swell significantly with the remaining regular season and playoff games and once extra events at Boomers Stadium are factored into the equation as well.

“The potential for continued growth and success of the Boomers franchise is enormous,” said Owner/CEO Pat Salvi. “We are just scratching the surface with respect to Boomers Baseball popularity as well as the use of our beautiful ballpark for all sorts of fun, non-baseball events. We have gone from no professional baseball in Schaumburg in 2011 to the top franchise in a terrific league as voted by our peers!”

Schaumburg (58-35) secured the league’s best record and home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a three-game sweep of the Evansville Otters over the weekend a year after finishing one win shy of the playoffs. With a 54-42 record during the inaugural season, Frontier League Manager of the Year Jamie Bennett‘s squad moved into first place after a 5-4 win over the Normal CornBelters on August 9th and never looked back. In fact, after snapping a five-game losing streak on July 27, Schaumburg surged to the West Division Title with a stellar 26-7 stretch through September 1.

At this point in the 2013 baseball season, the Boomers have a more impressive number in the win column than any of the other prominent pro baseball teams in the Chicagoland area and have done so in a fraction of the games played. Chicago’s only home for playoff baseball is Schaumburg as the Boomers possess two more wins than the Chicago White Sox (56-80) in 43 fewer games played, the same number of wins as the Chicago Cubs (58-79) in 44 less games and two more wins than the Kane County Cougars (55-80) in 42 fewer contests.

“I hope the Village of Schaumburg, Mayor Al Larson, the Schaumburg Park District, Executive Director Tony LaFrenere, and the boards and employees of both of those outstanding partners of ours take similar pride in this award, as we couldn’t ask for a better village to operate in or for better allies in both groups,” Viano added. “This award is only possible because of their collaboration and the generous support of our amazing corporate partners, namely our Founding Partners Kia Motors, Wintrust Financial Corporation, ATI Physical Therapy, and Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, P.C. That said, being named Organization of the Year is just the beginning, as we hope to deliver a Frontier League Championship this fall and many more years of fun, affordable, fan-focused, family-friendly entertainment to Schaumburg!”
