The Tampa Bay Rays and the city of St. Petersburg are reportedly working on an agreement that would define ground rules for exploring new stadium options and reinforce the team’s current obligation to play at Tropicana Field through 2027. Under the developing deal, the Rays would have to thoroughly examine a proposed stadium in St. Petersburg’s Carillon Business Park before looking in Tampa. Read more here.

Will a new stadium in Tampa solve the Rays’ attendance problem? Why is it that people will drive for hours, put up with Chicago traffic, and pay through the nose to park on the street to watch the last place Cubs? Do they have a new stadium? I know Bud and the smartest guys in the room in Tampa think a new stadium will solve the problem, but I’m not so sure.
No, a new stadium will not help the attendance problem. MLB should have moved the Rays to Charlotte, but now with Charlotte building a new triple A stadium I guess that will never happen
