PRESS RELEASE – The Gastonia Grizzlies Baseball Club (photo courtesy of Encaptured & Co.) announced today the promotional schedule for the 2013 season. The schedule is highlighted by Dig to China Night on July 19th. The Grizzlies are teaming up with Creative Travel in Belmont, to bury a certificate in the infield dirt for a free trip to China! The lucky fan that “Digs to China” will then board a direct flight that night to China. If this is not the lucky fans preferred destination, there will be an alternate cruise vacation package available.
“The idea of having our fans dig to china was too good to pass up,” said Managing Partner Jesse Cole. Whether or not the fan chooses to board the flight to China that night will be the real question. Either way, it will be a lot of fun to watch and we can’t wait”
In addition to Dig to China Night, the Grizzlies will host the “World’s Largest Pillow Fight” on May 30th where the team will look to break the World Record for Largest Pillow Fight. The record set in the United Kingdom in 2008, featured 3,706 participants. Fans will be encouraged to BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow) and the record attempt will take place in between innings during the game.
All new this season will be the first ever “Kids Run the Ballpark” on July 1st. Teaming up with the Gaston Gazette, the Grizzlies will select kids to run all operations at the stadium including Announcer, GM, Grounds Crew, Director of Promotions, Ticket Takers and Concessions. The Gazette will have kid reporters, photographers and cover all aspects of media relations for the game.
One of the most popular promotions of last season is back in 2013 with Mighty Dollar Mondays where everything is $1 including tickets, hot dogs, chips, candy, soda and beer! The Grizzlies will host seven Mighty Dollar Mondays in 2013, starting on June 3rd and finishing with the last game of the year on August 5th.
On July 5th the Grizzlies will welcome back violinist Stephen Neil and his brother Jeff Neil for “Electrified with the Neil Brothers Night” where the Neil Brothers will play throughout the night, including playing the player entrance songs and being involved in all of the promotions.
On June 3rd, the Grizzlies will welcome back Jeff Hall to compete in a Home Run Derby exhibition prior to the game.
On June 22rd as the Grizzlies will host the annual “Salute to Troops Night,” where the team will wear Camouflage Jerseys in support of the troops. On July 13th, the Grizzlies will host “Strike out Caner Night” and wear special jerseys to be auctioned off after the game to raise money for cancer research.
Two of the most popular promotions are back with the “Fourth Annual Midnight Madness Game” on July 26th and the “Great Community Give Back Game” on August 5th. “Midnight Madness” won best promotion in all of college summer baseball at the Summer Ball Conference in 2010 while the “Great Community Give Back Game” won best promotion for 2011.
Other highlights for the 2013 season include Bark in the Park on June 10th where fans can bring their dogs to the ballpark and the first ever “Grandpa Beauty Pageant” on June 4th.
Three fireworks nights have been scheduled by the Grizzlies for June 1st, July 2nd and August 3rd. Two of the Fireworks shows sold out in 2012.
“Our promotions are a big part of what we do each year and we see every game as a different event at the ballpark,” said Managing Partner Jesse Cole. “This year is no different as we have planned outrageous giveaways, exciting theme nights and fantastic family fun!
The Grizzlies are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 62 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far.
