PRESS RELEASE – As part of the Can-Am League’s preseason exhibition schedule, the Quebec Capitales and Trois-Rivieres Aigles will meet in the first-ever Quebec Baseball Classic on Saturday, May 11 at Montreal’s Ahuntsic Park at 7:30 p.m.
The matchup marks the first professional baseball game to take place in Montreal since the departure of the National League’s Montreal Expos in 2004. In addition, it will be the first game between two Quebec-based professional teams since the Double-A Eastern League’s Quebec Carnavals and Trois-Rivieres Aigles met on September 3, 1977.
Now entering their 15th season, the Capitales, who play at Quebec City’s Stade Municipal, have captured the previous four Can-Am League championships. Meanwhile, the Aigles are in their first season of play at Stade Fernand-Bedard.
In October 2012, Ahuntsic Park’s baseball field, located at 10555 Lajeunesse Street, was named “Gary Carter Stadium” in memory of the Montreal Expos legend.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online at Baseball Quebec’s web site, baseballquebec.com.
The Quebec Baseball Classic is one of several exhibition games taking place as Can-Am League clubs prepare for the 2013 regular season:
