PRESS RELEASE – The San Jose Giants unveiled today a number of improvements to Municipal Stadium designed to enhance player development and fan experience at the ballpark. Built in 1942, Municipal Stadium has been a place for families to gather and watch professional baseball for over seventy years, while it has served as the home for top San Francisco Giants prospects since 1988.
During the offseason, the organization reinvested in the field. Players will benefit from a redesigned home bullpen, along with an upgraded warning track and redone infield. Each of these enhancements will make Municipal Stadium one of the best fields to play on in all of Minor League Baseball.
“We are committed to giving San Jose Giants players the tools and amenities they need to develop into major leaguers,” said Lance Motch, San Jose Giants Vice President of Ballpark Operations. “These improvements further that mission and are extremely important upgrades.”
Fans visiting Municipal Stadium will notice significant improvements to amenities all around the ballpark, especially as they enter the gates and look up to see former San Jose players who have become San Francisco Giants. When walking through the concourse and taking their seats they will find a resealed stadium bowl. Fans in the bowl will also enjoy increased shade on the first base side courtesy of a newly installed awning. When fans get hungry, they will enjoy ordering food and beverages from the completely redesigned concession stands and beverage deck. For groups, the Martinelli’s VIP Deck has been expanded so that it can accommodate five parties of up to 40 people each, or one party of up to 200.
“This marks the eighth consecutive season that major improvements have been invested to enhance the fan experience at Municipal Stadium,” said Daniel Orum, San Jose Giants President and CEO. “Together with the City of San Jose, we have worked extremely hard to upgrade our historic stadium and ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy professional baseball in the South Bay.”
The San Jose Giants begin their 2013 season on Thursday, April 4 at Visalia with the home opener scheduled for Thursday, April 11 against the Rawhide. The Giants will also feature home games on Mother’s Day (May 12), Memorial Day (May 27), Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 2).
