Aeros Partner with Ohio Center of Broadcasting

Akron Aeros LogoPRESS RELEASE – The Akron Aeros and the Ohio Center of Broadcasting (OCB) today announced a partnership arrangement, which includes more than $10,000 worth of donated broadcasting equipment to the OCB, and educational and training opportunities for the students.

“The Ohio Center for Broadcasting is extremely thankful to the Akron Aeros for its generous donation to the school. Since we are a completely hands-on training environment, our students will now have more opportunities to work with many different kinds of broadcast cameras and technology,” said Christopher O’Connell, OCB’s Regional Outreach Coordinator.

Canal Park will have the largest video board in Double-A Minor League Baseball installed for the 2013 season. After implementing many new additions in its broadcast department, the Aeros decided its gently-used equipment could be best used to teach and train future broadcasters.

“The Akron Aeros are proud to support the Ohio Center for Broadcasting. Broadcasters are an integral part of the business world of professional sports. We hope the equipment will assist these students as they acquire the tools to help them to achieve their goals,” said Jim Pfander, Akron Aeros general manager and chief operating officer.

The new partnership between the Aeros and the OCB also will give students from the Center the opportunity to gain practical-broadcasting experience.

“Forming a partnership together is a natural fit and will give our students the chance to intern at the ballpark to obtain real-world, hands-on experience that is invaluable to the learning process,” said O’Connell.

Among the items donated were four studio cameras, three viewfinders, three lenses, power supplies, and headsets. This equipment will help provide students with an opportunity to gain experience using professional broadcast equipment.

The Ohio Center for Broadcasting provides broadcast training for students interested in radio, television, and production. Students learn about all aspects of broadcasting and through direct work in the field, gain experience in their chosen field.

The Aeros are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. In the just-completed 2012 season, the Aeros had the best regular-season record in all of Double-A baseball and won the Eastern League Championship for the fourth time in team history. The team begins its 17th season in Akron on April 4, 2013, with a 6:35 pm game against the Binghamton Mets at Canal Park. Tickets are on sale at and will be available at the Canal Park box office and Infield Outfitters team store during the final week in March.
