Northwoods League Sole Bidder for Kalamazoo

Northwoods League Logo wo WordmarkAs we have discussed in the past, the summer collegiate Northwoods League has been eyeing the Kalamazoo (MI) market to compliment the circuit’s Battle Creek (MI) franchise.  It is now being reported that the city of Kalamazoo issued an RFP (request for proposal) to use Mayor’s Riverfront Park (formerly Homer Stryker Field), and Kalamazoo Baseball LLC representing the Northwoods League was the only suitor to submit a bid.  If a deal is reached, a new franchise would begin play in 2014.  Read more here.  Funny — we were just discussing this in comments last week.

As you may recall, the indy pro Frontier League’s Kalamazoo Kodiaks and Kalamazoo Kings played at Homer Stryker from 1996-1998 and 2001-2010, respectively.

  1. I would love to see more teams here in Michigan! I think the Northwoods team would fit in very well in K-Zoo, too. It’s good to have the BC/K-Zoo rivalry going, too.
